42CrMo4 Steel and 4140 Steel

42CrMo4 steel is alloy steel. It was improved based on the USA AISI 4140 steel. It has great machinability, easy to get polishing and texturing. And it can be electroplated, is good for products which with high strength, toughness, quenching. In the quenching, it would not get huge deformation. It has high creep strength and permanent strength in the high temperature. And 4140 alloy tool steel is high strength steel with high toughness and hardenability. And it does not have temper brittleness, it has great fatigue limit and impact toughness after the quenching and tempering. It is a good material for big, medium plastic molds with high strength and toughness.

  • Impact energy: ≥ 47J < (Annealing and tempering condition): ≤ 187J

The Application of 42CrMo4+qt

42CrMo4+qt is carburizing steel with great properties, its hardenability is high. After carburizing and quenching, it will get wear-resisting and strong surface. Also, its weldability is at the medium level and low-temperature impact toughness is high. If you do the processing of normalizing, then its machinability will be better. It is a great material for chart, wheel gear, fittings.

4140 Steel Properties

Sae 4140 steel is made by iron, carbon and other alloy elements in the electric furnace. Its main alloy elements are chromium, manganese, molybdenum. Mix up the iron, carbon and other elements for the liquid state type, then make it cool. Then you can use the steel to do the processing of annealing. After annealing, heat the steel to make it become soft, then its shape will be built easily. Meanwhile, it must do other heat treatment, cold processing with tools to get the thickness of demand. AISI 4140 steel is low alloy steel. Its machinability can be up by the iron, carbon and other elements. And people also call it as chromium-molybdenum steel. Chromium and Molybdenum can raise the corrosion resistance. Molybdenum can reduce the corrosion of oxide. Chromium can raise the hardenability of 4140 steel, and it can use as a deoxidizing agent. In alloy steel, chromium also can be mixed up with sulfur to make the machinability of steel get better, and raise the effectiveness for carburization.
