Porsche is going to introduce a green version of the Cayenne

What interests you when it comes to the Porsche brand? Is it top speed or maybe Power? If you are not an environmental activist, it’s likely not fuel consumption or carbon dioxide emissions. Yet, for many years now, Porsche has set ambitious environmental targets and consistently achieves them.

The greatest sports car company Porsche has not only joined the UN Global Compact for sustainable and responsible corporate governance and encourages its suppliers to use 100% renewable energy sources for component production. It is taking sustainability seriously and responsibly when it comes to developing new Porsche models, which are going to be all-electric.

An all-electric crossover Macan will be added to the list next year, while ecological versions of the Boxster and Cayman will take another year to perfect. In 2026, the automaker is set to add an all-electric version of the Cayenne to its lineup. This new model will likely be called the Cayenne EV, but the company has not officially confirmed this so far. Finally, in 2027, a seven-seater SUV, which is now known as K1, should debut.

Porsche has been developing an electric version of the Cayenne crossover since 2020. According to the available information, the electric crossover will appear on the market in 2026 and will be sold in parallel with the fuel versions for several years.

It is assumed that the brand will use the same strategy when developing the electric Cayenne it had when creating Macan EV. This means the “green” Cayenne will have nothing in common with the less environmental-friendly counterpart other than the name and Porsche logo. The exterior design elements will likely set apart these two models as well.  The electric version of the Cayenne will receive its own body design and interior design, typical for the brand’s electric vehicles.

The “green” crossover will be based on the Premium Platform Electric platform that is developed in cooperation with Audi. This platform will receive a thrust vectoring system and a fully controlled chassis. It is expected that 800-volt onboard electrics, combined with next-generation batteries, will reduce charging time and increase the range of an electric vehicle. This will allow the future Porsche electro car to compete with the Mercedes-Benz on a completely new level.

The electric Cayenne will provide the automaker with an important expansion of the lineup of electric vehicles, thanks to which the brand has achieved significant sales growth. That means it should get the same advanced torque distribution technology and full power steering to bring some of the signature Cayenne sports car dynamics to the electric car era.

The electric SUV will be designed in such a way as to provide undisputed speed and functionality on par with modern electric cars of the premium category. Porsche hasn’t released any further details about the electric Cayenne yet, but the model will play a crucial role in the brand’s bid to have electric cars account for more than 80% of sales by 2030.

As said earlier, a year after the electric Cayenne will be rolled out of the plants, another electric crossover with the logo of the Porsche brand will debut on the market. It will be the flagship three-row model, which will surpass the Cayenne not only in terms of equipment but also in price. According to rumors, it will be higher almost three times. Such an SUV will be able to drive 700 kilometers on a WLTP cycle without recharging. It will receive a fully controlled chassis with rear wheels that will turn up to five degrees. The main markets for it will be the US and China.
