Streaming Overload – Americans Fed Up With Too Many Options

If you’ve paid any attention at all to the options that are available for TV shows and movies, then you’ve likely seen that streaming services have taken over. There are a few major companies that have made sure that consumers know that they are available, leaving some consumers who once enjoyed streaming content a bit frustrated.

Interpret is an analyst company for various types of media and has discovered that most households have between four and five streaming services that they use. There are also a few services with ads that are viewed as well, such as Dish Latino, Pluto and Tubi. About 20% of 9,000 people surveyed believe that they have too many streaming services while about one-third of those surveyed are trying to find ways to manage the services that they have so that they can view more content in one place instead of switching from one service to another. This is a detail that many of the larger companies are trying to take into consideration so that they can offer consumers what they want. These companies include Redbox, Sling TV, Comcast, and Apple.

Putting the Pieces Together

Since there are multiple streaming companies that have taken over the market, the issue of fragmentation can be a bit difficult to take care of as each company has revenues, content, and an audience that it deals with instead of each company utilizing all of the same information. If companies are able to look at the issue of aggregation and are able to offer consumers what they want, then they do have more to gain compared to other companies that aren’t quite sure how to offer consumers a solid platform with content all in one place. Consumers will have an improved experience as companies hope that there will be an increase in the number of subscriptions as well as the number of companies that utilize the companies to advertise. If smaller streaming services can figure out the aggregation factor, then it could be highly beneficial to them since they usually aren’t able to expand as much as the larger streaming companies.

Staying in Place

As companies begin the process of trying to figure out how to generate content that’s all in one place instead of consumers having to change from one service to another just to watch the content that they want, there’s still quite a bit of turmoil among consumers who are tired of waiting for changes. About 36% of consumers who have streaming services hop from one to another as they subscribe to one service to watch content before canceling for a short time and subscribing to another service.

Companies will need to analyze the information obtained by outside companies in order to determine exactly what consumers want. The information can help consumers determine why consumers might change to another service and the type of consumer who could change services so that they can offer content that will be enjoyed. Another goal for streaming companies is to enhance the customer service aspect so that consumers know that they have someone to talk to when they have a concern or a suggestion. There have been fewer subscriptions made online due to the customer service factor as consumers want someone available who can answer questions before making a decision about whether or not to subscribe. If consumers continue to express their disdain for streaming services, then it could result in companies working with other distributors to further increase what’s offered.
