Students-Led Innovations Changing the Course of Technology

Many people assume that most technological innovations are made by geniuses who spend long periods with their thinking caps on and through serendipitous epiphanies in the shower. However, students are proving them wrong by coming up with unique technological innovations bound to take the world by storm. Here are some student-led innovations whose implementation have or will change the world.

The Torch With an Additional Bulb

If you have ever tried to make your way in the dark and got frustrated that you couldn’t point ahead of you and where you were at the same time, then this student’s innovative idea is for you. Inspired by a time when he fell in a pit while guiding his grandmother in the dark, he decided to do something about this problem. He came up with the idea for a torch with two bulbs. The first bulb is the regular torch bulb. The second, however, can point downwards at your feet. This way, you are able to see, simultaneously, where you are standing/walking and where you are going.

A Table With Pedals to Generate Electricity

Some students face numerous problems while learning and studying at home. For example, this young man lived in a place facing multiple power outages due to an erratic power supply. He came up with an idea for a table with pedals. When you turn the pedals as you study, they generate electricity, which in turn powers the bulb on the table. This way, you can keep learning even in the darkness. This is a brilliant idea that could help students from low-income backgrounds who may not be able to buy supplementary lighting systems. You can use a research paper writing service to get a paper on the topic (or any other topic) to learn more.

No License, No Driving

This idea is a collaborative idea from some IT students. Tired of the rising accident cases, especially by unqualified drivers, they have thought of a solution. What if the car didn’t move unless you put in a valid driving license? Their idea is to have a slot near the vehicle’s ignition to put a valid driver’s license. If there is no driving license or the permit is fake/expired, the car will not go. If this idea is implemented, it will help keep people safe on the road from some preventable accidents.

Inexpensive Braille Printer

A middle school student from Santa Clara was only 12 years old when he had the idea to create a cheap braille printer. This was after realizing how expensive braille printers actually were despite how much they would help blind people. He had been researching for an idea for the science fair and decided that this would be his project. With the help of his father, a software engineer, and after a few attempts, he was able to create Braigo. This small, portable, and low-cost printer resembles a regular printer only instead of numbers and letters; it spits out the raised bumps signature to braille.

Visual Aid Device for People With Low Vision

Upon observation, this young innovator realized that many students in a nearby school for the blind were not really blind. They just had a really low vision or had a partial vision. He thought that if these students had a device that would help them see better, they would be able to live independent lives. His idea was of a device that captures far away objects clearly and shows the image to them on a screen placed near them.

He tried different ways to make this possible and finally concluded that a camera with zoom functionality and an LCD screen would serve this function. The prototype of the device received applaud from patients who said it helped them see better. However, there is still more to be done to make the device more compact.

An Electronic Purse With an Accompanying Watch

Another young tech student thought of this fantastic idea to create a password protected purse paired with an electronic watch. This was in response to a friend losing their purse to pickpockets. However, even without the fear of theft, there is also the fear that you may absentmindedly forget your purse or bag somewhere. This idea, if implemented, will help prevent loss or theft of people’s bags and purses. The password protection feature will also prevent unwanted access to your belonging by people with malicious intent.

If you do further research, you will find many more student-led innovations. For example, you will find an adjustable walker that can help people climb stairs. You will also find the device that notifies people when someone falls or has convulsions or epileptic fits.

Some of these ideas by students are still going through the prototyping process, and final products have not been made. That does not, however, take away from the fact that they are excellent ideas which, if implemented, would help move technology forward and make the world better.
