When you are looking for a material that will hold up to some of the toughest conditions, you are looking for Inconel Forging. It can without its tensile strength or up to 2000° F and even performs better than stainless steel. The typical tensile strength for stainless steel is 73.2 ksi and it 103-106 ksi. There are a variety of uses for Inconel Forging. Because it has a very high resistance to heat and chemicals it is useful in a variety of applications. The materials are chemically resistant so it is perfect for marine applications as well. It is ideal for the extraction of gas and oil industry. Inconel offers unique properties.
The high temperature and oxidation-resistant properties is what the applications are in need of. This material is typically reserved for applications that are unique to its properties. It is often used as a basket to carry parts through a system. A basket made from this sort of material doesn’t tend to lose its shape while being banged around in the production. Things that would need heat treatments for sterilization is a good example of this.
Saltwater applications are a big industry where you will see Inconel. It has great properties for saltwater applications as we have stated before. This material is one tough cookie. This is a superior alloy that is much better than stainless steel in high-temperature applications such as the engine room. While stainless steel has that saltwater resistance it doesn’t have high heat resistance.
Some industries that use Inconel
Jet engines seem to be an obvious place that we might expect to find Inconel. Jet engines face some pretty extreme temperatures but also extreme variable temperatures. These materials will hold up to these extreme temperature changes like a champ. This material is also great for aerospace in general. The high temperatures typically will break down the oxidation resistance in most materials. However, that isn’t the case for Inconel. It can withstand the heat and still maintain this resistance to the oxidation process. While this material a certainly great option, it isn’t the best for every situation. Be sure that you take the time to explore what you’d like and expect out of a material.
High heat treatment applications. If you are a manufacturer and looking for a material that will sustain its shape while under great heat, then this is the material for you. Many gas turbine components are made from this material as well as petrochemical processing equipment. The food industry and nuclear engineering are other places that Inconel can be found.
