What’s the Next Big Leap in Online Gaming?

There’s no question that the future is virtual. It has been for a long time. We do everything online on our computers or smartphones. Information is stored and transferred online easily these days thanks to new technologies that allow it. We pay bills online, order food online, and we entertain ourselves virtually as well.

Online gaming has literally exploded in the past decade or so. The success of multiplayer games such as Counter Strike and early Call of Duty games has led to a whole new industry. It’s not just video games. Helpful and informative sites like the gamblers pro sites give players a chance to play slots and casino games in a virtual setting by giving critical, detailed reviews of operators and what they can offer to consumers.

Online gaming is set to take a next big leap with the emergence of VR and AR. Both technologies are already being tested and used, with a slew of other waiting their turn.

VR

Short for virtual reality, this technology has already made its debut in gaming. There have been numerous VR games released so far. VR casinos have been tested too, allowing players to interact with the virtual environment like never before. In video gaming, VR remasters or games such as Batman Arkham Knight put you in the Batsuit for a whole new experience. The latest Half Life instalment, Alyx, was released in VR only.

It’s an exciting technology that may change the way we play virtual games. It’ll need some polish before it becomes common, but it definitely is one of the major leaps online gaming will take.

AR

AR stands short for augmented reality. It hasn’t been fully implemented in online gaming yet, but there have been a few games and casinos using it. AR should make most sense when being used together with VR. Augmented reality can display information about an object, area, or characters which will certainly come in handy when playing in a VR setting.

So far, this technology has made an appearance in smartphones. You can use your camera to point at an object and get details on its significance or dimensions. As mentioned, it hasn’t been used to its full potential yet. Once developers learn how to implement it properly, AR could be the future of online gaming.

AI

Artificial intelligence is widely touted as the next big technology thing. It will surely find its way into the online gaming industry too. AI has the potential to change it in its core, especially with quantum machine learning accelerating its development.

Just imagine what better AI could to in online games. NPCs will largely benefit from it and games will get better overall. Of course, the technology has yet to be perfectly polished, but quantum computing machines can help in that area. More realistic NPCs and games, especially with VR and AR implemented as well, will change online gaming as we know it.

If you ask most experts, AI is the next big leap online gaming will make. It definitely has the potential to revolutionize the industry, so all that’s left is for developers to focus on it.
