What’s the Process of Finding and Ordering Autoflowering Seeds?

Spring has arrived, and many people turn their thoughts to gardening. Some individuals plan to grow cannabis this year and need to know where to buy seeds, whether doing so is legal, and more. Finding and ordering marijuana seeds serves as the first step in the growing process, so that’s where every grower should begin this journey.

The Legality of Marijuana Seeds

Before ordering marijuana seeds, individuals must know whether they are legal in their state. Authorities view the seeds as a cannabis product, much like the flowers from the plant. Men and women living in a state where cannabis is legal can purchase seeds without worry. However, the seeds cannot cross state lines. Furthermore, the federal government still lists marijuana as a controlled substance. Although they rarely prosecute someone for possession of the seeds, it could happen.

Buying Seeds

In states that have legalized cannabis, consumers may purchase seeds through a dispensary or online. Many people choose the online route because they find a bigger selection of seeds to choose from. However, before making a purchase online, the buyer needs to research the company to ensure it is reputable and will deliver the goods.

If waiting for seeds to arrive in the mail sounds agonizing, visit a local dispensary to see what strains they have in stock. They may not carry the strains you wish to grow, as dispensaries typically focus on selling flowers and end products.

Quality Genetics

Regardless of where they purchase the seeds, the grower needs information on the genetics of the seeds. They need to know where the seeds originated and how the breeder crossed them. Avoid purchasing seeds with no history, as there is no way to know what you are getting. Multiple rounds of backcrossing ensure stable genetics, so the grower knows what they will produce when planting the seed.

Strain Options

Weed plants offer abundant harvests. One plant supplies a user with multiple buds, so the grower needs to ensure they choose a strain they love. Learn which strains are mold and pest-resistant and which are easy to grow. Ask about the time to harvest and the effects expected with each strain.

Seed Options

After choosing a strain, the grower needs to know whether they want regular seeds, feminized versions, or autoflowering seeds. Regular seeds produce both male and female plants, so the grower must remove the male plants before they pollinate the females. Failing to do so could lead to a less-than-desirable harvest. Feminized seeds only produce female plants, eliminating the need to weed and discard male plants.

Autoflowering seeds remain the choice of new growers. They move through the developmental states without regard to light cycles. A grower can harvest the crop in ten to twelve weeks with many strains, but the potency is reduced in autoflowering plants.

The Cost of Marijuana Seeds

Seed prices vary by strain. Some varieties cost $30 for five seeds, while high-end seeds run in the hundreds of dollars. Expect to pay more for feminized and autoflowering seeds, as more work goes into the breeding process.

Consider all options when shopping for marijuana seeds online. Growers have their preferences, so what works for one person may not be appropriate for another. Experiment when one or two strains when embarking on this journey and expand as your skill set grows. Soon you will have a cannabis crop to be proud of.
